WD Time Machine issue

By | July 22, 2011

As of 20th July 2011, Western Digital NAS (Network Attached Storage) drives aren’t compatible with OSX Lion. There currently isn’t a workaround to support Time Machine as Lion have updated their version of AFP to 3.3. WD NAS boxes don’t support this so if you own one of these then you are SOL. If you use Time Machine with a WD USB drive then you are absolutely fine. Just no Time Machine via your wifi with the WD NAS drives.

Products affected include the big grey Sharespace cube and the white MyBookWorld drive. WD say they are working to fix this issue. How long will it take them? You’ll have to ask them.

Please share this with your friends to make them aware. Don’t buy a WD NAS box until they WD have released a fix. Likewise if you know of a workaround please leave a comment. Thanks.

PLEASE NOTE WD HAVE NOW RELEASED A FIRMWARE UPDATE. Go to wdc.com for more info.
